Another update, same problem. Before defining the problem, and of course, the answer, I will write down my setting and the steps I went through. I am using MacBook Pro (mid 2014), MacTex and TexWorks. Yesterday, I updated the operating system to OS X El Capitan, and once again TexWorks could not find pdflatex, or any typesetting. Meanwhile, I noticed that there was an update for MacTex also. So, I updated the tex distributions too. I was disappointed that there was no update for TeXworks.
- MacTeX : MacTeX-2015
- TeXworks : TeXworks-Mac-0.4.5-r1280-MountainLion
When I am trying to typeset my TeX file with pdflatex, I get the following error:
- MacTeX : MacTeX-2015
- TeXworks : TeXworks-Mac-0.4.5-r1280-MountainLion
When I am trying to typeset my TeX file with pdflatex, I get the following error:
The program "pdflatex" was not found.
You need a TeX distribution like MacTeX installed on your system to typeset your document.
When a TeX distribution is installed you may need to tell TeXworks where to find it in Edit -> Preferences -> Typesetting.
This is the mistake I need to fix for every big update in the operating system. And, everytime, I am losing myself in web to find the answer. This time, I am giving the answer for the fix. We need to locate the tex distribution for TeXworks:
TeXworks -> Preferences -> Typesetting
Click the + button for the first box `Paths for TeX and related programs.` and choose the following folder:
/usr/local/texlive/2015/bin/x86_64-darwin
